August 25, 2025 | Cowboy Golf
STILLWATER – Three Oklahoma State Cowboys were among the standout collegiate golfers selected for the Haskins Award Watch List with Ethan Fang, Eric Lee and Preston Stout all getting the nod.
The Haskins Award honors the player of the year in men's college golf as selected by college golfers, coaches and members of the college golf media. Players on the watch list were selected by a panel of Golfweek and Golf Channel reporters.
A first-team All-American as a sophomore last spring, Fang made history this summer with his victory at The Amateur Championship, becoming the first Cowboy since 1967 to win the event. He competed at The Open Championship, was medalist at the Western Amateur and was a member of the U.S. Palmer Cup squad. He will also represent the United States at the upcoming Walker Cup.
The Plano, Texas native currently ranks third in the World Amateur Golf Ranking.
Lee is coming off a sophomore campaign that saw him achieve honorable mention All-America status. Most recently, he reached the semifinals at the U.S. Amateur. Lee earned his first victory as a Cowboy last spring with his win at the Mountaineer Invitational.
The Fullerton, Calif., native checks in at No. 21 in the most recent WAGR.
Stout also earned first-team All-America status as a sophomore last year. This summer, he won the Northeast Amateur and was medalist at the U.S. Amateur as well. Like Fang, he represented the U.S. at the Arnold Palmer Cup and will compete at the Walker Cup as well. He won twice last year with victories at the Cabo Collegiate and the Big 12 Championship.
A native of Richardson, Texas, Stout checks in at No. 4 in the WAGR.
In 1978, Lindy Miller became the first Cowboy to garner the award and was followed by Bob Tway in 1981 and Willie Wood in 1982. Scott Verplank received the award in 1986 with Charles Howell earning the award in 2000. Hunter Mahan (2003) and Pablo Martin (2006) preceded the most recent Cowboy to win the Haskins, with Matthew Wolff winning it in 2019.
