STILLWATER – An NCAA team title from men's golf, top-10 national finishes from six teams and the 10th all-sports Bedlam Series win in the last 12 years were highlights of Oklahoma State's 2024-25 athletic season.
The national championship from men's golf was the 12th in program history and the second under head coach Alan Bratton. The Cowboy five-man lineup at NCAAs consisted of four sophomores and a freshman, marking the first time OSU won a golf title with no upperclassmen in the lineup. Two-time Big 12 individual champion Preston Stout and Ethan Fang were both honored as first-team All-Americans.
Additional OSU national title contenders in 2024-25 included wrestling (third place), men's indoor track and field (fifth place) and men's cross country (eighth place). Equestrian and women's tennis both advanced to the quarterfinal round of their respective national championship tournaments. Soccer and women's basketball both returned to NCAA tournament competition. The NCAA appearance was particularly satisfying for a Cowgirl Basketball team that was picked 11th in the Big 12 preseason poll but defied expectations to finish third.
Men's cross country/track and field finished second in the USTFCCCA Program of the Year metric, which measures all schools based on their finish at the NCAA cross country, indoor and outdoor championships. The Cowboys turned in their best NCAA indoor finish since 1965 and their best outdoor finish since 1984. The second-place finish in the program of the year standings matched an all-time best for the Pokes.
OSU was a 15-10 winner in the all-sports Bedlam Series, highlighted by head-to-head NCAA tournament wins over Oklahoma in men's golf and women's tennis. The Sooners haven't won the all-sports Bedlam Series outright since 2018-19 and have won Bedlam only once since 2012-13.
On the conference level, OSU secured Big 12 team championships in wrestling, equestrian, women's tennis (regular season) and men's golf.
On an individual basis, wrestler Wyatt Hendrickson beat Olympic gold medalist Gable Steveson in the NCAA heavyweight title match to claim one of the most seismic wins in the history of the sport, with Dean Hamiti (wrestling – 174 pounds) and Brian Musau (men's indoor track and field – 5,000 meters and outdoor track and field – 5,000 meters) adding national championships of their own.
Hendrickson's win capped a season in which he earned the Hodge Trophy presented to the nation's top wrestler and the Most Dominant Wrestler award at the NCAA Championships. He went on to earn a spot on the U.S. Senior World team in freestyle, as well. Hamiti was honored with Amateur Wrestling News' Hammer Award presented to the wrestler who won the national championship at the weight class deemed by AWN to be the nation's most challenging. For sweeping the indoor and outdoor 5K national titles, Musau was honored as a semifinalist for the Bowerman Award.
Across all sports, 36 from OSU earned All-America honors, with Musau recognized as the Big 12 Cross Country Runner of the Year after winning the conference meet, Hendrickson honored as the Big 12 Wrestler of the Year, and Riley Hogan voted as the Big 12 Equestrian's Rider of the Year in both fences and flat.
Bratton and wrestling's David Taylor were both honored as national coach of the year in their respective sports. For Bratton, it was his second national coach of the year honor, as he previously earned the same honor after mentoring the Cowboys to the 2018 NCAA team title. Making Taylor's national coach of the year honor particularly impressive is that it came in his first year as a collegiate head coach.
Ryan Schoppe and Sivan Auerbach took home OSU male and female scholar-athlete of the year honors, respectively, with Auerbach also securing the NCAA Elite 90 award for women's cross country and Big 12 women's cross country scholar-athlete of the year accolades. Molly Breiner and Alex Morris (soccer) and Isaac Becroft (men's tennis) were Academic All-Americans from the College Sports Communicators, with Morris also being honored as the Big 12 soccer scholar-athlete of the year.
