RUMFORD, R.I. – Oklahoma State's Preston Stout closed with a final-round 65 to cruise to victory at the 63rd Northeast Amateur Invitational on Saturday at Wannamoisett Country Club.
The rising junior fired a 4-under 65 to finish at 9-under 267 and eight shots clear of the field.
With his victory, Stout joins Peter Uihlein (2011) as Cowboys to win the event.
On Wednesday, Stout posted an even-par 69 to open play before matching the course record with a 61 on Thursday to climb 28 spots into first place.
The All-American's record-matching round began with a par before he posted his lone bogey of the day at the second. He would reel off four consecutive birdies starting at the third before turning in 31. Stout would par the 10th before carding birdies at Nos. 11 and 13. Following an eagle at the 14th, he would tack on a birdie at the 17th to match the low mark.
After battling tough scoring conditions on Friday and finishing with a 72, Stout would enter the final round of play with a one-shot lead. He got going again early during his final round. After a birdie at the second, he would add another at the seventh for an outward nine of 32.
Stout's lone bogey of the day would come at the 12th. He responded with a birdie at the 14th and added two more at the 16th and 17th to pad his cushion from the field.
