URBANA, Ill. – Oklahoma State's men's golf team fired a closing 276 to claim its nation-leading 17th regional title on Wednesday at the NCAA Urbana Regional at Atkins Golf Club.
The second-ranked Cowboys finished at 15-under 837 and tied with tournament host Illinois atop the leaderboard at the par-71, 7.533-yard layout. UNLV, Troy and Texas Tech rounded out the regional's five qualifiers.
The victory secured OSU's 76th NCAA Championship appearance in the 78-year history of the program. OSU now has eight regional titles in 11 tries under head coach Alan Bratton as well.
Additionally, the Cowboys have won four consecutive events this spring and have six victories overall to their credit on the season.
OSU began the day three shots off the pace of the host school before using its 8-under final round to pull even.
Leading the way was Preston Stout, who fired a closing 66 to move into the top 10 and finish tied for eighth place at 208. The sophomore went out in even par, countering a double bogey and bogey with three birdies. Stout blistered the second nine with a 5-under 30.
Sophomore Gaven Lane carded a 67 to climb into a tie for 11th place at 209. Lane posted three birdies on his opening nine to turn in 2-under 34 and added a birdie and eagle for a 33 on his inward nine to get to his 4-under tally for the day.
Freshman Filip Fahlberg-Johnsson closed with a 72 to finish at 211 and tied for 16th place.
Sophomore Ethan Fang also posted a 1-over closing score to finish in 21st place at 214.
Sophomore Eric Lee finished with an even-par 71 for a 216 total, good for a tie for 34th place.
The Cowboys now advance to the NCAA Championship at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif., which will take place May 23-28.
