IRVING, Texas – Oklahoma State picked up a pair of weekly awards for Week 8 as Harrison Bodendorf was named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week and Sean Youngerman was tabbed the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week.
That Cowboy duo led OSU to a series sweep of No. 22 and league-leading Kansas State last weekend as each turned in stellar starting performances on the mound.
Bodendorf took the ball for the series opener and hurled seven innings, allowing just one unearned run and giving up only two hits, both singles, to earn the win.
A junior southpaw, Bodendorf racked up a career-high 12 strikeouts, punching out the side in the second, third and fifth innings, against a K-State team that entered the game 23rd nationally in slugging percentage and averaging 8.5 runs per game.
Bodendorf's seven innings was a career long, besting his previous high of 5 2/3, and he improved to 6-1, with his six wins tying for the most of any Big 12 pitcher this season and ranking in the top 10 nationally.
Youngerman stepped up in the second game of the series as he made just his second start of the season and picked up the series-clinching win with eight shutout innings and 11 strikeouts; both marked career highs.
The right-hander retired the first 17 Wildcat batters in order before losing the perfect game on a single after 5 2/3 innings.
Youngerman allowed just three hits, all singles, and did not issue a walk in the 133-pitch performance, which nearly doubled his previous high pitch count of 74.
The win was Youngerman's first in an OSU uniform, and he lowered his season ERA to 2.28.
Bodendorf was previously named the Big 12 Co-Pitcher of the Week on March 3, while this marks Youngerman's first weekly conference award.
