Cowboy Baseball Drops Game At Arizona
April 12, 2025 | Cowboy Baseball
TUCSON, Ariz. – Oklahoma State dropped a 5-1 contest to 20th-ranked Arizona Saturday night at Hi Corbett Field.
The loss snapped the Cowboys' four-game conference winning streak as they fell to 5-7 in the Big 12 and 16-16 overall. Arizona improved to 23-10 and 9-5 in the league heading into Sunday's rubber game, which will start at 2 p.m. (CDT).
Nolan Schubart went 3-for-4 and drove in the Pokes' run, while Kollin Ritchie had two hits.
Mario Pesca took the loss to fall to 2-1. Making his third start of the season, the right-hander struck out a season-high seven in seven innings of work, which marked his career long, and gave up four runs on six hits.
The game was a pitcher's duel through the first five innings between Pesca and UA's Owen Kramkowski (5-3) as neither team scored, and both managed just two hits each.
In the sixth, the Cowboys put runners on the corners after back-to-back singles by Ritchie and Schubart with two outs, but a groundout ended the threat.
The bottom of the inning saw the Wildcats break up the shutout. Mason White doubled with one out, and following a fly out, a walk put two runners on. Up next, Maddox Mihalakis delivered a three-run home run over the wall in right field to put the home team on top.
UA added another run in the seventh as a bunt single brought home Easton Breyfogle, who had previously tripled, to make the score 4-0.
The Cowboys broke through in the eighth, getting a two-out RBI single from Schubart to cut their deficit to 4-1, but they left two runners stranded.
