LOS CABOS – Oklahoma State's men's golf team earned its second consecutive second-place finish on Tuesday, carding a 5-under 279 during its third round at the Cabo Collegiate en route to its runner-up finish at Twin Dolphin Club.
The sixth-ranked Cowboys, who have now finished first or second in their last four starts, posted a 9-under total of 843 at the par-71, 7,156-yard layout. OSU's closing score was the low round of the day and drew the Pokes within five shots of Arizona State, which finished at 14-under 838.
Florida State finished third and was nine shots off the pace of the Cowboys.
Individually, Preston Stout came up just short in his bid for his first victory of the season. The sophomore rolled in an eight-foot birdie at the last to make it a three-way tie for first place. Stout made the turn in 1-over 36 before putting together a 3-under 33 on his inward nine with three birdies and no bogeys.
He joined the duo of Pongsapak Laopakdee of Arizona State and Florida State's Tyler Weaver in the playoff, which eventually went the way of Weaver.
Sophomore Ethan Fang tallied his fifth top-five showing in seven starts, grabbing sole possession of fourth place at 7-under 206 after carding a closing 69.
