Four Cowboys Set For Action At 124th U.S. Amateur

CHASKA, Minn. – Four members of the Oklahoma State men's golf team will be in action this week when play gets underway at the 124th U.S. Amateur Championship at Hazeltine National Golf Club.
Preston Stout will be joined by newcomers Ethan Fang and Eric Lee, both sophomore transfers from California, as well as junior John Wild. Last year, Stout posted rounds of 76 and 65 to tie for 26th place and advance to match play at Cherry Hills Country Club. He would ultimately fall in 22 holes in his first-round match against Jose Islas.
This year's event marks the second time the U.S. Amateur has been contested at Hazeltine. The famed layout has also previously hosted a pair of U.S. Opens (1970 and 1991), two PGA Championships (2002 and 2009) as well as a Ryder Cup (2016).
The 312-player field will play one round each at Hazeltine and Chaska Town Course after which the field will be trimmed to 64 for match play. The match play bracket will run from Wednesday through Sunday's 36-hole championship match.
Fang will be the first Cowboy off, beginning play at Hazeltine at 8:50 a.m.,, while Lee will begin play at Hazeltine at 1:47 p.m. Wild will get his tournament started at 12:30 p.m. and Stout tees off at 2:20 p.m. with both starting at Chaska Town Course
The champion and runner-up both will receive exemptions into the 2025 U.S. Open at Oakmont (Pa.) Country Club as well as likely invitations to the Masters Tournament in April. The winner also gets a spot in the 2025 Open Championship at Royal Portrush.
Five Cowboys have previously won the event with Labron Harris, Jr. (1962), Bob Dickson (1967), Scott Verplank (1984), Peter Uihlein (2010) and Viktor Hovland (2018) all hoisting the Havemeyer Trophy.
