Benge is the 20th player in program history to be selected in the first round of the MLB Draft, and the first since Justin Campbell in 2022. He is the Cowboys' highest draft pick since Andrew Heaney was taken No. 9 overall in 2012.
A two-way standout for the Cowboys, Benge has played in 119 games over two seasons in an OSU uniform and posted a .339 batting average to go along with 41 doubles, 25 home runs and 107 RBIs.

Benge is coming off an All-American season as a redshirt sophomore in which he was an All-Big 12 First Team outfielder, one of five finalists for the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award and a semifinalist for the Dick Howser Trophy. He was also the Most Outstanding Player at the Big 12 Championship as he led OSU to the title.

He posted a 3-2 record and a 3.16 ERA and tied for the team lead with three saves while racking up 44 strikeouts in 37 innings of work; opponents hit just .186 against him.
After redshirting due to injury in 2022, Benge earned Freshman All-America honors in 2023. He led the Cowboys with a .345 batting average and added 17 doubles, seven home runs and 43 RBIs while spending time as an outfielder and designated hitter. His .468 on-base percentage also led OSU, and he was second on the club with eight stolen bases.
On the mound, Benge was 2-2 in 10 starts and posted 35 strikeouts in 35 innings of work.
Benge was a semifinalist for the 2023 John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award and earned All-Big 12 First Team honors as a utility player as well as All-Big 12 Second Team accolades as an outfielder.
