July 10, 2024 | Cowboy Cross Country & Track
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State men's track & field athletes Alex Maier and Ryan Schoppe were each named College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-Americans, the organization announced Wednesday.
Maier is one of just 12 multi-time selections on this year's team, being named to the first team in 2024 after being a second team Academic All-American in 2023. On the track, he picked up a pair of first team All-America honors indoors with a third-place finish in the indoor 3K and a sixth-place finish in the 5K. He also won a pair of Big 12 titles in the indoor 3K and outdoor 5K. Outdoors, he was a second team All-American in the 10,000 Meters.
Schoppe earned his first Academic All-America honor as he was named to the third team following impressive seasons on the track and in the classroom. He ran as the anchor leg of the Cowboy Distance Medley Relay squad that won its second straight NCAA title. Schoppe then returned the next night and earned his second first team All-America honor of the weekend in the 3,000 Meters. At the Big 12 Indoor Championships, he secured a pair of titles in the Mile and DMR.
Overall, the Cowboy Track & Field Program has had 15 honorees in program history, including at least one in each of the past seven seasons.
