Oklahoma State posts fourth consecutive top 25 Learfield Directors’ Cup finish
June 26, 2024 | General
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State finished 19th in the final 2023-24 Learfield Directors' Cup standings, which evaluates success in all sports. It is the fourth consecutive top-25 national finish for OSU. Of Oklahoma State's 18 varsity sports, eight posted top-10 national finishes and 15 had top-30 national finishes.
The Learfield Directors' Cup measures the success of each sports program evenly and does not weigh the success in one sport above the success in another.
Because Oklahoma State does not sponsor women's volleyball and does not get credit for its performance in equestrian, it has only 17 sports eligible for Learfield Directors' Cup scoring, while most other schools count points from 19 sports. Operating with a two-sport handicap, Oklahoma State has still finished in the top 25 nationally in each the last four years and has finished in the top three of the Big 12 in each of the last six years.
Oklahoma State teams that placed in the top 10 of the 2023-24 Learfield Directors' Cup standings were men's cross country (first), women's cross country (third), men's indoor track and field (seventh), softball (seventh), women's indoor track and field (eighth), women's tennis (ninth) and wrestling (10th). Equestrian placed third, but does not get counted since it is an NCEA sport.
Among Big 12 schools, OSU placed second to Texas in the 2023-24 Learfield Directors' Cup standings. The Longhorns finished No. 1 in the nation. Over the last five years, Oklahoma State's average finish in the Learfield Directors' Cup Standings is 22.6, also second in the Big 12 to Texas.
OSU's 19th-place national finish this year was its third-best since the inception of the Learfield Directors' Cup in 1993-94, trailing only a 13th-place finish in 2015-16 and an 18th-place finish in 2020-21.
