June 11, 2024 | Cowboy Cross Country & Track, Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State men's and women's track & field and cross country each earned top-5 finishes in the final U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Program of the Year Standings, the organization announced Tuesday.
The USTFCCCA Program of the Year Standings are calculated by adding up the combined finishes of each program's cross country, indoor and outdoor track & field placements at the NCAA Championships.
The Cowboys placed third overall with 37 points as they finished first in cross country, tied for seventh in indoor track and tied for 27th outdoors. The third-place finish by the Cowboys is the second highest in program history, behind their runner-up placement in the 2013-14 season.
On the women's side, the Cowgirls also earned their second-highest finish in program history as they placed fourth overall with 25.5 points on the year, a new program record. The OSU women finished third in cross country, tied for eighth indoors and 14th outdoors, which led to their program-record score.
Under the direction of Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Dave Smith, the OSU men's and women's combined score of 62.5 points finished behind only Arkansas and is the lowest combined score in school history, surpassing the previous best mark of 85 during last year's campaign. It is also the second year in a row that both the Cowboys and Cowgirls have placed in the top 10.
