Cowboy Golf Wraps Up Day One At NCAA Championship

CARLSBAD, Calif. – Oklahoma State's men's golf team opened play at the NCAA Championship on Friday with a 303 score to stand in a tie for 21st place at Omni La Costa's North Course.
The Cowboys' 15-over tally tied them with SMU at the par-72, 7,538-yard layout. Virginia and Arizona shared the lead after the opening round with 290 totals.
Georgia Tech's Hiroshi Tai carded a 67 on Friday to lead the field by a stroke.
Fifth year Rayhan Thomas and freshman Gaven Lane each carded opening 74s to share 41st place and lead the OSU starting five.
Thomas went out in 2-over par before carding a pair of birdies on his second nine en route to an even-par 36 to finish at 2-over for the day.
Lane posted four birdies on his opening side to turn in 1-under 35 before registering bogeys on three of his final five holes to move over par for the day.
Senior Jonas Baumgartner finished the day tied for 81st place after posting a 76.
Freshman Preston Stout opened with a 79 to come in tied for 125th place, while senior Bo Jin's opening 80 knotted him for 155th place.
The Cowboys will begin their second round at 12 p.m. (PST) tomorrow and will be grouped with Texas A&M and New Mexico. Live scoring for the event is available at golfstat.com.
