Cowboy Baseball’s Benge A Semifinalist For National Awards

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State standout Carson Benge is a semifinalist for a pair of national awards, earning a spot on the Dick Howser Trophy and John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award lists.
Benge is one of 68 semifinalists for the Howser Trophy, which is awarded to the top player in college baseball, while he is one of 10 semifinalists for the Olerud Award for the second consecutive year.
A sophomore outfielder and pitcher, Benge is hitting .328 and leads the Cowboys in nine offensive categories, including home runs (15), doubles (20), RBIs (57), walks (43) and total bases (135).
Benge has posted 23 multi-hit games and 17 multi-RBI efforts, and he is currently on a 10-game hitting streak, tying him for the longest by a Cowboy this season.
On the mound, the right-hander has made 16 appearances, 14 of those in relief, and is 2-1 with three saves and a 2.45 ERA. In 25 2/3 innings of work, he has tallied 30 strikeouts, and opponents are hitting just .179 against him.
Benge has made both of his starts in Big 12 play and is 2-0 with a 1.47 ERA to go along with a pair of saves against conference foes.
