RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. – Oklahoma State's men's golf team opened play at the NCAA Rancho Santa Fe Regional on Monday with a 278 team score to stand in second place at The Farms Golf Club.

The fifth-seeded Cowboys' 2-under tally put them just a shot off the pace of North Florida at the par-70, 6,962-yard layout.
Â
The event is one of six 54-hole regional tournaments being conducted around the country. The top five teams and low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals.
Â
Team and individual medalist titles will be decided May 24-29 at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif.

Fifth year Rayhan Thomas paced the OSU starting five, firing a 3-under 67 to stand alone in second place and a shot behind California's Sampson Zheng.

Thomas opened with a bogey at the 10th hole before carding birdies at the 12th, 14th and 16th before posting a bogey at the 17th for a 1-under 34 opening nine. He would card four consecutive pars to open his second nine before reeling off three birdies in four holes on his way to a 2-under 33.

Senior Jonas Baumgartner carded three birdies during his opening round to sign for a 1-under 69, tying him for sixth place.

Freshman Preston Stout and senior Bo Jin each carded 71s to stand in a tie for 13th place.
Â
Freshman Gaven Lane was a stroke back with an opening 72 to share 26th place.
