STILLWATER – Oklahoma State's Carson Benge is the Big 12 Conference Player of the Week for week 11, and he has also been named the D1Baseball Player of the Week and the Perfect Game National Player of the Week.
The Cowboys' two-way standout from Yukon, Okla., helped lead OSU to a 4-0 week that included a midweek win at Oral Roberts and a Big 12 series sweep of BYU as they tied a season-long with a five-game winning streak.
Benge shined at the plate, batting .471 and hitting safely in all four games, and on the mound, picking up a win. He homered in all four games and finished with five round trippers on the week to go along with a team-high 10 RBIs.
The sophomore also had two doubles, 25 total bases, a 1.471 slugging percentage, scored 10 runs, walked four times and stole a base.
In the midweek win at ORU, Benge had a homer, double and four RBIs, and he followed that by going 6-for-11 at the plate with four homers and six RBIs while also scoring eight runs and drawing four walks in the BYU series.
Benge made his first start of the season on the mound in the series opener against the Cougars and earned the win by working five innings and allowing just one run on three hits while striking out a season-high six. In his previous 14 appearances this season, had not pitched more than one inning.
He also served as the Pokes' DH in the opener and went 3-for-4 with two homers, a double and three RBIs.
Benge closed out the series in Friday's doubleheader with a 3-for-7 showing that included two homers and three RBIs.
He joins Robert Cranz, who was named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week on April 15, as Cowboys to earn weekly awards from the conference this season.
