April 24, 2024 | Cowboy Wrestling
LAS VEGAS – Oklahoma State wrestler Hayden Simpson fell just short of a Greco-Roman title at the U.S. Open Championships on Wednesday, finishing runner-up at 130 kg. With the result, Simpson still secured a spot at the U20 World Team Trials this summer.
Simpson rolled through his first three matches of the day, not surrendering a single point until the championship match. Despite entering competition as the six seed, Simpson defeated both third-seeded Torin Forsyth and second-seeded Jaren Rohde en route to the finals.
Meanwhile, Carlos Alvarado came up just win a short of placement following a 2-2 showing at 87 kg.
After dropping his opening match, Alvarado bounced back in consolations with two straight falls over eighth-seeded Evan Grazzini and Hunter Jones, ending both matches within a minute. His run then came to a close in the ensuing round, suffering a defeat to No. 6 Riley Hucks.
Simpson and Alvarez, along with several other Cowboys, will return to action in the U20 freestyle division on Friday and Saturday. Live streaming options and brackets can once again be found on FloWrestling.org.
