Cowboy and Cowgirl Track & Field Drops Several Impressive Marks on Final Day of Tri-Meet Weekend
April 14, 2024 | Cowboy Cross Country & Track
AZUSA, Calif. – Oklahoma State outdoor track & field wrapped up action Saturday in the final day of a three-meet weekend with several athletes putting down impressive marks in California, Florida and Oklahoma.
The famous 1,500 Meters at the Bryan Clay Invitational yielded some of the best performances of the weekend for OSU athletes.
Two-time NCAA champion Fouad Messaoudi rounded himself back into form in the men's 1,500 Meters, placing fourth overall in a field of 142 athletes that included multiple NCAA champions, All-Americans and professionals. He finished with a time of 3:36.08, which is less than a second off his personal best and school record.
Over in the women's 1,500 Meters, Billah Jepkirui appeared in her first race of the outdoor season with a mark of 4:08.93, which is a nearly two second personal best and moves her up to No. 2 in program history behind only Cowgirl national champion Sinclaire Johnson. In the same event, Gabija Galvydyte also put down an impressive time of 4:10.53 in her second race of the weekend after running a 2:01.89 in the 800 Meters on Friday. Both times represented her best marks in season openers to date.
At the Tom Jones Memorial in Gainesville, Fla., the men's 4x400 Meter Relay squad of Darian Tarver, Jordon Smith, Blake Wynne and DJ McArthur ran the fifth-fastest time in OSU history with a mark of 3:06.47. On the anchor leg, McArthur split 45.21 seconds, which is faster than the open 400 Meter school record by nearly two-tenths of a second.
The Cowboys and Cowgirls will return to action next weekend with a pair of trips to Waco, Texas, and Fayetteville, Ark., for the second time this season for the Michael Johnson and John McDonnell Invitationals.
