STILLWATER – Oklahoma State distance runner Taylor Roe was named U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Midwest Region Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Year, the organization announced Thursday.
This is the second time Roe has been the Midwest Athlete of the Year indoors, in addition to her cross country award in 2020 and her outdoor award in 2022. Her indoor season was one for the record books, finishing as the NCAA Runner-Up in the 5,000 Meters with her time of 15:15.01. She also defended her Big 12 title in the 5K with a meet-and facility-record time of 15:32.03 at altitude in Lubbock, Texas.
Earlier in the season, Roe broke the school record and ran the fourth-fastest time in NCAA history in the 5,000 Meters with her time of 15:12.71 at the Eagle Elite Invitational in Boston. Later in the same meet, she anchored the Cowgirl Distance Medley Relay to the fifth-fastest mark in collegiate history. For her performances, she was named USTFCCCA and Big 12 Athlete of the Week.
The Cowgirl legend wrapped up her indoor career with staggering numbers across the board. She became the fifth Cowgirl to win an NCAA individual title at the 2022 NCAA Championships in the 3,000 Meters in addition to her five career Big 12 individual championships. Her career total of 68.5 points at the Big 12 Championships is not only the most in program history, but sits 12.5 points ahead of second. She also finishes her career with 26 points scored at the NCAA Championships, which ranks second in OSU history.
She won the Big 12 High-Point award in 2023 after scoring 24 points across the Mile, 3K and 5K, leading the Cowgirls to their first-ever track & field conference title over top-ranked Texas. Roe was also Big 12 Indoor Performer of the Year in 2022 as she brought home three conference titles in the Mile, 3K and DMR.
