ARLINGTON, Texas – Oklahoma State picked up its second win in the Kubota College Baseball Series Friday at Globe Life Field with a 9-3 win over Michigan.
With the win, the Cowboys improved to 3-2, while Michigan fell to 2-3.
Six different Pokes drove in runs in the contest, with Carson Benge and Nolan Schubart collecting two RBIs apiece to lead the way.
Sam Garcia picked up his first win in an OSU uniform as the southpaw struck out six and allowed just one run on three hits in 5 1/3 innings of work.
Garcia worked out of a huge jam in the second. After Michigan loaded the bases with one out on an error, hit by pitch and walk, he retired the next two Wolverines via strikeout to escape unscathed.
The Cowboys would take the lead in the bottom of the frame. Following a leadoff single by Brueggemann, Schubart stepped to the plate and launched a bomb 433 feet into the seats in right-center field for his first home run of the season.
OSU held the 2-0 lead until the fifth when UM's Mack Timbrook opened the inning with a single and later scored on an RBI double off the bat of Stephen Hrustich to cut the Cowboys' advantage to a run.
The Pokes increased their lead in the sixth, rallying for five runs on three hits.
After the first three batters reached safely, a wild pitch brought home a run before Meola made the score 4-1 with a sacrifice fly to left field. The Cowboys would load the bases again, and this time get a big hit from Benge, who delivered a two-RBI single through the left side to extend the lead to six.
Michigan would get back a pair of runs in the seventh to make the score 7-3, but OSU answered in the bottom of the inning with back-to-back sac flies by Kollin Ritchie and Ian Daugherty.
OSU returns to tourney action Saturday when the Cowboys take on No. 2 Arkansas at 7 p.m.
