HUNTSVILLE, Texas – Oklahoma State picked up its first win of the season in dominating fashion Sunday as the 21st-ranked Cowboys topped Sam Houston, 19-2, in the series finale at Don Sanders Stadium.
The Pokes racked up 23 hits in the contest, their most in a game since they had 26 against Missouri State in an NCAA Regional game on June 5, 2022, as they improved to 1-2 on the season.
OSU smashed three home runs in the contest as Tyler Wulfert, Nolan Schubart and Zach Ehrhard all went deep, and 14 of the Cowboys' runs came with two outs.
Carson Benge led the Cowboys with a 4-for-5, four-RBI day at the plate, while Wulfert, Schubart and Lane Forsythe each collected three RBIs.
Janzen Keisel picked up the win on the mound as the right-hander worked five shutout innings and struck out six while allowing just three hits and walking three. It marked Keisel's first win in an OSU uniform in his 10th career appearance.
OSU opened the scoring in the second inning. Following a Schubart double, a walk to Aidan Meola and a sac bunt by Jaxson Crull, Beau Sylvester brought home the first run with a sacrifice fly to center field.
The Pokes took command in the third inning, rallying for seven runs as they sent 12 batters to the plate and collected eight hits, all of them singles.
Forsythe and Benge each had two-RBI singles in the frame, while Wulfert and Meola also had RBI hits. A sac fly by Schubart also plated a run.
Leading 8-0, the Cowboys put the game away in the fifth with an 11-run outburst that saw them record 10 hits, including three round trippers, and score all of their runs with two outs.
A two-RBI double by Benge got the scoring started, and Wulfert followed that with OSU's first home run of the season, a two-run blast over the wall in left field. Two batters later, it was another homer, this one of the inside-the-park variety, that brought home a pair of runs as Schubart smashed a ball off the wall in center field and raced around the bases.
Back-to-back RBI singles by Sylvester and Forsythe and a two-run homer off the bat of Ehrhard completed the scoring in the fifth.
The Cowboys return to action Wednesday when they face Abilene Christian in the Kubota College Baseball Series at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
