Cowgirl Distance Medley Relay Runs No. 2 Time in NCAA History; Winny Bii Breaks Kenyan National Record in Triple Jump
February 10, 2024 | Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
BOSTON – Oklahoma State indoor track & field set the record books on fire Saturday at the Eagle Elite Invitational in Boston, headlined by the women's Distance Medley Relay clocking the second-fastest time in NCAA history.
Starting the day off with a bang, the women's DMR squad of Billah Jepkirui, Tamara Woodley, Gabija Galvydyte and Taylor Roe took command early and shattered the school record with their time of 10:47.20. The group narrowly missed the collegiate record by less than half a second and are currently ranked No. 1 in the NCAA this season in the event.
Continuing the record-breaking trend in the field was Winny Bii in the Triple Jump, breaking her own school and Kenyan national record the event with her winning leap of 13.72 meters. As of today, Bii ranks No. 3 in the NCAA in the Triple Jump.
Not to be outdone, the men's 4x400 Meter Relay squad of Caio Almeida, Jordon Smith, DJ McArthur and Justin Smith tied the school record with their time of 3:07.37. They are now tied atop the OSU leaderboard with the group that earned All-Big 12 honors at last year's Big 12 Championships.
Earlier in the day, Alex Maier and Denis Kipngetich dominated the proceedings in the men's 3,000 Meters, clocking times of 7:43.22 and 7:44.78, respectively. Kipngetich's time puts him fifth in program history as Maier's personal-best time from last season sits at No. 4 on OSU's list.
In the field, Olivija Vaitaityte set a new personal best in the High Jump as she cleared 1.74 meters on the day. Vaitaityte's clearance ranks her sixth in program history. Over in the throws arena, Sam Mason also broke his personal best in the Shot Put with his toss of 16.43 meters, which ranks ninth in program history.
After today's impressive DMR performance, Galvydyte heads to The Armory in New York City to run the 800 Meters at the prestigious Millrose Games, where top athletes from around the world gather to compete. She currently holds the school record both indoors and outdoors in the event and was a 2023 World Championships qualifier.
The rest of the Cowboys and Cowgirls return to action next Friday, Feb. 16, for the Arkansas Qualifier at the Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark.
