October 08, 2024 | Cowboy Golf
HOCKLEY, Texas – Oklahoma State's men's golf team went 0-1-1 in a pair of tightly contested matches at the Big 12 Match Play Tournament on Tuesday at Houston Oaks.
In matches that were each decided on the final hole, the Cowboys dropped a 3-2 contest against Kansas during the morning session before tying Utah, 2-2-1, during their afternoon tilt.
Against the Jayhawks, KU got on the board with a 6-and-5 win from Max Jelinek over Cowboy freshman Brady Catalano. Will King added the second point with his 4-and-2 triumph over sophomore Eric Lee.
The Cowboys answered with a 1-up win from sophomore Preston Stout over Luke Honner. The win moved Stout's career record in the event to 5-1-2.
Sophomore Gaven Lane picked up his first win of the week with a 4-and-3 victory over Noah Holtzman to knot the match.
Sophomore Ethan Fang trailed the majority of his match against Gunnar Broin before pulling even on the 14th hole. He would grab the lead with three to play. However, Broin would claim two of the final three holes for a 1-up victory.
Against Utah, Sergio Jimenez logged a 2-and-1 victory over Lee in the first match out.
Cowboy freshman Filip Fahlberg-Johnsson answered, winning 4&2 over Brandon Robison. Lane was impressive for the second consecutive match with a 4-and-3 win against Davis Johnson.
The Utes got their second point of the match with Gabriel Palacios' 2-up win over Stout.
With the outcome once again coming down to Fang's match, he took the lead on the match's third hole and held a 1-up advantage before Braxton Watts claimed the 17th and the duo tied the last to tie the match.
