Cowboys Go Unbeaten On First Day of Big 12 Match Play

HOCKLEY, Texas – Oklahoma State's men's golf team posted a 1-0-1 mark during the first day of action at the Big 12 Match Play Tournament on Monday after taking down UCF and tying Kansas State at Houston Oaks.
The second-seeded Cowboys were impressive during the morning session, logging a 3-1-1 victory over UCF at the par-71, 7,007-yard layout.
Sophomore Eric Lee opened with a 7-and-5 victory where he claimed the first five holes in his match with Hans Risvaer. He would win the 18th, his 12th hole of the match, to move to 6-up before winning the first hole to close out the match with five to play.
Fellow sophomores Ethan Fang and Preston Stout logged 5-and-4 wins, taking down Clemente Silva and Chase Haygood, respectively.
Fang won his first hole before Silva tied the match on the next. However, Fang won Nos. 10, 11, 13 and 14 to take command. He would go on to win the 17th hole before tying the final two holes to close out the victory.
Stout improved to 4-1-1 all time at the event with his win. After tying the first four holes of his match, he won three of the next four to take a 3-up lead. After making the turn with a three-hole cushion, he would win the first and second holes to close out the match.
Freshman Filip Fahlberg-Johnsson tied his match with Marc Keller, while sophomore Gaven Lane lost, 1 up, to Lucas Dutarte.
Against the Wildcats, Lee was strong down the stretch en route to a 3-and-2 win over Nicklaus Mason. Tied through nine holes, Lee won three out of four to build his cushion before closing out the match with a win on the match's 16th hole.
Fang trailed for the majority of his match before winning the final three holes for a 2-up win over Kobe Valociek.
In his match with Cooper Schultz, Stout never led by more than a hole and the match was tied for 12 holes. He led with three holes to play before Schultz won the ninth and the duo tied the final two holes to split the match.
K-State got a pair of 1-up wins with Fionn Dobbin taking down freshman Brady Catalano and Erik Sabelstrom Holmberg defeating Lane.
