Cowboy Wrestling Announces 2024-25 Schedule
October 11, 2024 | Cowboy Wrestling
STILLWATER – Head coach David Taylor and the Oklahoma State wrestling program announced the schedule for the 2024-25 season Friday, which features 14 duals and another trip to college wrestling's toughest regular season tournament.
One of the most challenging schedules in the sport, 11 of the Cowboys' 14 duals will come against teams currently ranked in the top 25 by InterMat. Their schedule also includes nine contests against Big 12 foes and a seven-dual home slate that will see four top 11 finishers from the 2024 NCAA Championships visit Stillwater.
Taylor makes his head coaching debut at Utah Valley on November 15, marking just the second matchup ever between the two programs. Two days later, the Cowboys continue west to face Oregon State in Corvallis, continuing a series that has gone Oklahoma State's way in all 23 previous matchups. In 2024, OSU defeated the Beavers, 27-9, in a tight dual that saw four matches reach overtime.
Oklahoma State opens its home schedule against Wyoming on November 22. A familiar opponent, OSU has battled Wyoming in 15 of the past 16 seasons and is undefeated in the all-time series at 27-0-1. That same weekend, Big 12 newcomer Arizona State will make its way to Stillwater for the second straight year. Troy Spratley's major decision over 2024 national champion Richard Figueroa highlighted the Cowboys' dominant victory last season.
For the second year in a row, OSU competes in the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational. With 19 ranked teams expected to be in attendance, the CKLV field is widely regarded as the most competitive in college wrestling prior to the postseason.
A trip down I-35 on December 13 sets up the 189th all-time meeting in the Bedlam Series. Oklahoma State surpassed 150 total wins in the series following its two-dual sweep last season and is looking for its 20th consecutive win over the Sooners, which would match the series record set between 1969 and 1978.
Throughout late December and early January, the Cowboys host four straight duals inside Gallagher-Iba Arena, facing Virginia Tech, Air Force, NC State and West Virginia. A win over Virginia Tech would even the series at one apiece and give Oklahoma State a .500 record or better against every opponent it's faced since the program's inaugural season in 1915.
Four of the Cowboys' final five duals come on the road, beginning with Big 12 tests at Northern Iowa and Iowa State on January 24 and 26, respectively. The past three meetings in Cedar Falls have resulted in an average margin of victory of less than five points, while OSU is aiming for its second win in as many tries over the Cyclones after last year's 21-12 win in Stillwater.
Following its home finale versus Missouri and fourth-ever meeting with Little Rock, Oklahoma State concludes the regular season on February 23 at Iowa, the second-ranked team in InterMat's preseason poll. The Cowboys lead the all-time series 29-26-2 but are looking for their first win in Iowa City since January 7, 2012.
The BOK Center in Tulsa will again play host to the Big 12 Championships on March 8-9 as Oklahoma State goes for its 22nd league title. Two weeks later, the eyes of the wrestling world will be on Philadelphia as the 2025 season ends with the NCAA Championships at the Wells Fargo Center from March 20-22.
