Fix Looks to Claim Final X Berth at World Team Trials Challenge Tournament
May 18, 2023 | Cowboy Wrestling
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State wrestler Daton Fix will make his anticipated return to freestyle wrestling at the 2023 World Team Trials Challenge Tournament on Sunday in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Fix is seeded third of seven wrestlers at 61 kg, but only the winner of the tournament will keep their world team hopes alive and advance to Final X where 2023 NCAA champion Vito Arujau is waiting.
A silver medalist at the 2021 Senior World Championships, Fix has had past success against his opponents at 61 kg. Although he has never wrestled top-seeded Austin DeSanto in freestyle, he defeated the former Hawkeye three times in college. Seth Gross, who is seeded second at the tournament, defeated Fix in the best-of-three Final X series last year, but the Cowboy star has a technical fall over Gross at the 2021 World Team Trials. Finally, Fix is 4-0 in freestyle against the fifth seed, Nathan Tomasello.
The senior men's freestyle tournament will take place Sunday, May 21, at Discovery Canyon High School. Action will begin at 11 a.m. CT with finals scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Results and live streams of the 2023 World Team Trials Challenge Tournament can be found on Flowrestling.org.
