Three OSU Distance Relays Records Fall in Final Multi-Meet Day of the Season
April 29, 2023 | Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
STILLWATER โ Oklahoma State distance runners erased three program records on the final day of the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Penn., with sprinters and jumpers capping off an impressive showcase at the Corky/Crofoot Shootout in Lubbock, Texas, on Saturday.
ย
Three Cowgirls from Friday's OSU outdoor record-breaking Distance Medley Relay squad returned for the 4x1,500 Meter Relay, as they once again put forth a solid effort and another second-place finish. OSU ran stride-for-stride with Providence finishing within one second of each other.
ย
The Cowgirls finished the relay in 17:11.70, which is the fifth-fastest in NCAA history, as well as the fastest ever in OSU program history. Gabija Galvydyte and Maddie Salek ran the first two legs, while Taylor Roe and Billah Jepkirui brought it home.
ย
The Cowboys competed in a pair of events, the 4xMile and the 4x800 Meter Relays, where both respective outdoor school records fell. Overall, the Cowboys finished the Mile Relay in 16:15.17 while scoring a 7:15.13 finish in the 4x800.
ย
At the Corky/Crofoot Shootout in Texas, Saara Hakanen highlighted the day with her victory in the High Jump. She cleared a height of 1.77 meters and was the only competitor to overcome a 1.74-meter jump. For Hakanen, it's her first event victory since last year's John Jacobs Invitational and the fourth of her career.
ย
In the 4x400 Meter Relay, the Cowgirls took home the victory with a 3:41.34 finish. They led the whole way, ultimately taking the top spot by a comfortable five seconds. Ansley Scott and Tori Ortiz got OSU off to a hot start after 800 Meters. Freshman Madi Surber gave the Cowgirls the five second lead with her 55.75 second performance, a lead she built by three seconds. Michaela Travers left no doubt after she got the baton and held the lead to the end.
ย
At the Long Jump pit, Blair Anderson continued his impressive season after another solid outing, leaping 7.39 Meters on his fifth attempt to secure a third-place finish. It marks his fourth consecutive meet reaching the podium in the Long Jump.
ย
Up next for the Cowboys and Cowgirls is the Arkansas Twilight, where OSU has historically been successful and is the last chance in the regular season for athletes to earn regional qualifying marks.
