National Champion Messaoudi Returns for First Race Since NCAA Titles
April 13, 2023 | Cowboy Cross Country & Track, Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State outdoor track & field travels coast-to-coast this weekend, competing in four separate meets from Florida to California on Friday and Saturday.
Two groups head out west for the Bryan Clay and Beach Invitationals, with national champions Fouad Messaoudi and Taylor Roe returning to the track. Messaoudi is competing for the first time since winning a pair of NCAA titles at the NCAA Indoor Championships in March with Roe competing in the 5,000 Meters outdoors for the first time since placing third at last year's NCAA Outdoor Championships.
School record holder Ryan Schoppe will also open his outdoor season after anchoring the NCAA title-winning Distance Medley Relay squad that also included Messaoudi. Schoppe currently holds the program record in the 1,500 Meters and will compete in that event as well as the 5,000 Meters on Friday and Saturday.
Out east, the Cowboy and Cowgirl sprinters will be competing at the Tom Jones Invitational held at the University of Florida with school record holders Hafez Mahadi and Charlie Bartholomew each competing for the second time individually this season in their respective events.
Mahadi holds the indoor school record in the 800 Meters and opened his season two weeks ago at the Texas Relays. Meanwhile, Bartholomew competed for the first time this season last weekend in Arizona and helped the 4x400 Meter Relay squad to the event victory to go along with his 46.42 opener in the 400 Meters.
The last group will head an hour south to Norman, Okla., for the Sooner Invitational. Pole Vault record holder Ariadni Adamopoulou will vault for the third time this outdoor season after clearing marks of 4.15 and 4.05 meters at her first two meets. Blair Anderson will also compete in the Long Jump after his huge PR of 7.75 meters last weekend in Arizona, which put him second on the program's all-time list.
