Cowboy Baseball Rolls To Another Win
March 12, 2023 | Cowboy Baseball
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State baseball extended its winning streak to 11 games Sunday with a 9-4 victory over Utah Tech at O'Brate Stadium.
With the win, the 13th-ranked Cowboys improved to 14-3, while Utah Tech fell to 5-12.
OSU's 11-game winning streak is tied for the third longest of the Josh Holliday head coaching era; the Pokes also won 11 straight in 2022. The Cowboys had a 14-game streak that covered the 2020-21 seasons (last five games of COVID shortened '20 season and first nine of '21), and OSU went on a 12-game winning streak in 2014.
Aidan Meola led the Cowboys' offense Sunday with two hits, a double and three RBIs, while Nolan Schubart went 1-for-2 with a three-run home run.
Roc Riggio added two hits, including a solo shot in the eighth, to extend his streak of reaching base safely to 12 games. In four games against Utah Tech, Riggio collected eight hits, three RBIs and five doubles.
Isaac Stebens picked up the win on the mound, working six shutout innings in relief and striking out six. Stebens, the Big 12 Conference leader in ERA, allowed just two hits and improved to 3-0 on the season.
Brennan Phillips got the start on the bump, pitching three innings and allowing three earned runs on six hits.
Utah Tech jumped out to a 4-0 lead with two runs in the first and two more in the third, but Noah Turley's first home run as a Cowboy, a solo shot off the foul pole in left field, sparked OSU's offense in the bottom of the third. A single from Riggio and an error by the Trailblazers put two baserunners on for Meola, and he took advantage, sending a line drive into the right-center field gap, scoring Riggio and Brennan Holt, to cut the deficit to one.
The Cowboys tacked on two more runs in the fifth inning to take the lead behind Meola's third RBI of the afternoon, and Colin Brueggemann's pinch-hit RBI single.
Schubart's three-run blast in the seventh stretched the Cowboy lead to four runs and was the freshman's team-leading sixth homer of the season.
The Cowboys will be back in action Tuesday at 6 p.m. when they host Dallas Baptist.
