Brayden Thompson Earns NCAA Wrestler of the Week Award

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State wrestler Brayden Thompson was named the NCAA Wrestler of the Week for his stellar performance over the weekend, the organization announced today.
Thompson went a perfect 2-0 over the weekend, picking up a pair of big wins at 174 pounds in the Cowboys' dual victories over No. 20 Lehigh and No. 18 Oklahoma.
On Friday, Thompson defeated Lehigh's Thayne Lawrence, 8-2, for the first victory of his young career. The true freshman then put on a show against Tate Picklo, who was Intermat's 17th-ranked wrestler at the weight, in his first Phillips 66 Bedlam Series action. Thompson held a 4-0 edge after two periods, but dominated the third and extended his lead out to 9-0 to earn a major decision. The performance marked his first career win over a ranked opponent and his first time earning bonus points as a Cowboy.
The Cowboys have been racking up the weekly honors recently, as Izzak Olejnik was named the Big 12 Wrestler of the Week last Monday.
Thompson and the Cowboys return to action a week from today on Dec. 19 against Wyoming in Laramie, Wyo. The dual is slated for 7 p.m. CT and will be available for streaming on FloWrestling.
