Izzak Olejnik Ready for NWCA All-Star Classic
November 20, 2023 | Cowboy Wrestling
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State wrestler Izzak Olejnik travels to State College, Pa., for an early-season test at the 2023 NWCA All-Star Classic presented by Cliff Keen on Tuesday.
Olejnik, currently the nation's consensus No. 6 wrestler at 165 pounds, will take on Dean Hamiti of Wisconsin. Hamiti is Intermat's No. 4 165-pounder and enters Tuesday at 5-1 on the season with his only loss coming to No. 2 David Carr of Iowa State on Sunday. Olejnik finished eighth at the 2023 NCAA Championships for his first career All-America honor, while Hamiti has posted All-American finishes in back-to-back seasons.
Tuesday marks the fourth collegiate matchup between the two wrestlers. Hamiti has taken the previous three bouts, including a 7-3 decision in Tulsa, Okla., at last season's NCAA Championships.
Olejnik is currently 5-0 on the year following a 10-2 major decision in OSU's season opener against Bucknell and first-place finish at the Lindenwood Open on Saturday. There, he picked up a pair of falls en route to a perfect 4-0 weekend.
A native of Bakersfield, Calif., Olejnik is the first Cowboy to compete in the All-Star Classic since Kaid Brock, Jacobe Smith and Derek White all wrestled at the event in 2018.
The All-Star Classic begins at 6 p.m. CT at Rec Hall on the campus of Penn State. The competition features 10 highly competitive matches between some of the top-ranked folkstyle wrestlers in Division I along with four cross-divisional women's freestyle matches. Last year's rendition featured six NCAA individual champions, while 18 of the 20 wrestlers set to compete on Tuesday earned All-America honors in 2023.
Cowboy fans can follow Olejnik with streaming options and live results on FloWrestling.org. Updates will be provided as they become available from @CowboyWrestling on X and @cowboywrestling on Instagram.
