Carter Young Named Big 12 Wrestler of the Week

STILLWATER - Oklahoma State's Carter Young was named the Big 12 Wrestler of the Week for his performance over the weekend, the conference announced Tuesday.

Young knocked off a pair of ranked wrestlers during the road trip, highlighted by a 15-7 major decision over No. 8 Cael Happel of Northern Iowa. The Cowboy 141-pounder struck early and often with two takedowns and three near falls, gaining a comfortable 12-1 lead in the first period that would set him up for bonus points. The win was the second highest ranked win of his career after defeating No. 3 Jake Bergeland earlier this season.

On Sunday, Young gave the Cowboys their first lead early in their dual with No. 4 Iowa State with a 3-0 win over No. 19 Casey Swiderski. A second-period escape and full ride out in the third period secured his second victory of the weekend.

Young is the first Cowboy to win wrestler of the week this season. It is also the first weekly conference honor of his career.
