July 16, 2022 | Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
STILLWATER – Former Oklahoma State thrower Chase Ealey put on a dominant display at the World Athletics Championships on her way to a gold medal on Saturday with her first throw of 20.49 meters holding atop the leaderboard from wire-to-wire for the victory.
In the process, Ealey became the first American woman to win a world outdoors title in women's Shot Put after placing second at the World Indoor Championships and tying the American record earlier this year in Belgrade, Serbia. She defeated a loaded field that included Olympic champion and two-time world champion Lijiao Gong of China and 2022 Indoor World Champion Auriol Dongmo of Portugal.
Ealey is believed to be the first individual gold medalist in either the Olympics or world championships in Cowgirl history with her title on Saturday.
At the U.S. Trials last month in Eugene, Ealey set a USATF Outdoor Championships record in the Shot Put, launching a personal-best distance of 20.51 meters. Ealey's throw is the best in the world this year and set a Hayward Field facility record in the process.
Ealey competed for OSU from 2013-16 and currently holds both the indoor and outdoor program records in the Shot Put. She finished her Cowgirl career as a three-time All-American and 12-time All-Big 12 honoree in addition to her runner-up finish at the 2016 NCAA Outdoor Championships in the Shot Put.
