Roe and Galvydyte Earn Third-Place Finishes as Cowgirls Finish 2022 Season
June 11, 2022 | Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
EUGENE, Ore. ----- Oklahoma State outdoor track and field's Taylor Roe earned her third All-America status of the 2021-22 season while Gabija Galvydyte capped off a stellar freshman outdoor season in the 800 Meters, finishing third overall in a loaded field with a time of 2:01.76, on Saturday to wrap up OSU's trip to the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Championships and the 2021-22 season.
Showing remarkable skill from the fall, through the winter and into the spring, Roe earned All-America honors in cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field this year.
Alongside the duo, Bailey Golden and Olivija Vaitaityte also concluded the final three events of the Heptathlon on Saturday with The Long Jump, Javelin Throw and 800 Meters.
"It was an incredible day," director of track & field and cross country Dave Smith said. "Let's start with Gabija. Runs a lifetime best in a championship setting. Third place. First-team All-American. Moves up to No. 3 on our all-time list. It was all good. Just really proud of her. She's come a long way in a really short time. This time a year ago her PR was 2:09. Now she's at 2:01. And a first-team All-American, so I'm excited for her.
"Taylor Roe rounded out what's really been an incredible five or six seasons in a row from cross country to indoor last year to being hurt last outdoor and coming back with cross country and indoor and now she has five top-5 finishes in the past six seasons. The only one she didn't was the season she got hurt. So, I think that's probably unprecedented in OSU track and field history.
"As a team, with Gabija's points there we finished 15th in the country, which is great. Which is probably our second or third best finish ever. So, it was a great day."
The Big 12 runner-up in the 800 Meters, Galvydyte is OSU's first first-team All-American in the 800 since Kaylee Dodd in 2017. Her time of 2:01.76 is a new personal best and moves her up to third in program history, only behind Cowgirl national champions Sinclaire Johnson and Natalja Piliusina.
Following Galvydyte was Roe in the women's 5,000 Meters. She earned a third-place finish in the event with a time of 15:24.41 to earn her third top-5 finish in an NCAA Championship race this year after finishing fifth in cross country, first in the indoor 3K and third in the outdoor 5K.
As for the final two Cowgirls to compete, Golden and Vaitaityte were the first Cowgirl Multis to advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in program history. Golden earned second-team All-America honors with 5,415 points and Vaitaityte finished as an Honorable Mention with 5,287 points.Â
The Cowgirls earned 15 points as a squad on the weekend, earning a tie for 15th place in the team standings. The 15 points were the second most by a Cowgirl squad since 1989, only behind the 2016 squad that posted 24 points. Â
On the men's side, the Cowboys earned 13 points at the national meet, which put them in a tie for 18th-place overall. The 18th-place finish was the highest since 2019, when the Cowboys also tied for 18th at the NCAA meet.
Â
This is the fifth time under Smith that the Cowboys have placed inside the top 20 at the outdoor championships. It is also the sixth time the Cowboys have scored more than 10 points outdoors.
Wrapping up the week in Eugene, it marked just the second time in program history that the men and women both finished inside the top-20.
