Gabby Hentemann Qualifies for NCAA Championships on Second Day of NCAA West Prelims

FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas – Oklahoma State outdoor track & field resumed competition at the NCAA West Prelims on Thursday with the Cowgirls opening their first events of the weekend.
Gabby Hentemann continued her superb season, finishing seventh in the 10,000 Meters, which gives her a spot at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore. The Big 12 Champion finished the 10K in 33:46.67, which a personal best and is the sixth-fastest time in program history. This marks her second-straight season qualifying for nationals after also qualifying in the 5,000 Meters last season.
Earlier in the night, Gabija Galvydyte earned a spot in Saturday's Quarterfinal round with an impressive performance in the 800 Meters. Galvydyte won her heat and qualified third overall in the event with a time of 2:04.91. The Big 12 runner-up in the 800 is looking to qualify to outdoor nationals for the first time after earning second-team All-America honors this season at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
Also qualifying for the Quarterfinal round was Sivan Auerbach in the 1,500 Meters with a time of 4:21.46. Auerbach is looking to earn her second career appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Championships after qualifying in the 800 Meters last season. She will race in the first of two heats on Saturday with the top five finishers in each heat plus the next two best times making it to Oregon for the national championships.
As for the Cowboys, Ryan Schoppe, Fouad Messaoudi and Kian Davis will compete in the 1,500 Meter Quarterfinals on Friday with tickets to Eugene on the line. Schoppe and Messaoudi run in the first heat with Davis running in the second of two heats. 12 runners will advance overall with the top five finishers in each heat plus the next two best times qualifying for nationals.
Immediately following the 1,500 Meter Quarterfinals, three Cowboys vie for a spot in Eugene in the 3,000 Meter Steeplechase Semifinals. Ryan Smeeton, Will Muirhead and Victor Shitsama will attempt to qualify in the event across two of the three heats overall. Muirhead opens in the first heat with Smeeton and Shitsama rounding out the field in the final of three heats. The top three finishers in each heat plus the next three best times making the Steeplechase Final in Oregon.
