February 22, 2022 | Cowboy Baseball
ARLINGTON, Texas – Oklahoma State dropped a 6-3 contest to Sam Houston in 10 innings Tuesday night at Globe Life Field.
With the loss, the third-ranked Cowboys fell to 2-2, while the Bearkats are now 4-1 on the season.
Offensively, Griffin Doersching, Marcus Brown and Jake Thompson collected two hits apiece for the Pokes, while David Mendham smashed the first home run of his OSU career.
The Cowboys used nine pitchers in the game, with starter Mitchell Stone working four shutout innings and striking out two in his season debut.
Roman Phansalkar took the loss to fall to 1-1 on the season as he allowed two runs on two hits in an inning of work.
The game was a pitchers' duel throughout the first nine innings, with both teams scoring in the sixth inning.
In the top of the inning, Sam Houston loaded the bases with two outs before taking the first lead of the game on a wild pitch.
But the Cowboys erased the lead in the bottom of the frame when Doersching smashed an RBI triple off the top of the wall center field. The ball missed clearing the fence by inches, but the hit tied the game at 1-1.
The score remained knotted until the 10th when the Bearkats rallied for five runs on five hits against three different Cowboy hurlers to take a 6-1 advantage.
In their final at bat, OSU cut its deficit in half with two outs when Mendham deposited a pitch into the bullpen in right-center field, a two-run blast that made the score 6-3, before a fly out ended the game.
OSU is scheduled to return to action Friday at 4 p.m. for its home opener against Wright State at O'Brate Stadium.
