DALLAS – Oklahoma State's Christian Encarnacion-Strand and Justin Campbell have been honored by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association for their outstanding play during the 2021 season.
Encarnacion-Strand joined an elite OSU baseball group as he was named to the NCBWA All-America First Team at third base. In doing so, he becomes the 26th Cowboy in program history to earn first-team All-America status and the first since Garrett McCain in 2017.
A native of Pleasant Hill, Calif., Encarnacion-Strand was also named the NCBWA District 6 Player of the Year in a district that includes the teams in Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota.
Campbell was tabbed a NCBWA Freshman All-American as he earned a spot on the first team as a starting pitcher.
Encarnacion-Strand led OSU in all three Triple Crown categories in 2021 as he posted a .361 batting average to go along with 15 home runs and 66 RBIs. He also led the Cowboys with 82 hits, 17 doubles, 150 total bases and a .661 slugging percentage.
Encarnacion-Strand, who was the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year and a unanimous All-Big 12 First Team selection, currently ranks sixth nationally in RBIs and ninth in total bases.
Campbell made 14 appearances on the mound this season, 13 as a starter, and went 7-2 with a 2.57 ERA and 102 strikeouts in 84 innings of work. He recorded double digits in strikeouts five times.
A right-hander, Campbell is the 15th pitcher in OSU history to record 100 strikeouts in a season, and on May 8 at Kansas, he became only the third pitcher in the 110-year history of OSU baseball to throw a no-hitter in a nine-inning game.
A second-year freshman, Campbell is a two-way standout who was named to the All-Big 12 First Team as both a utility player and pitcher and is one of five finalists for the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award.
Both Encarnacion-Strand and Campbell were previously named to the Collegiate Baseball All-America Second Team.
