STILLWATER, Okla. – As the NCAA outdoor track and field postseason rolls on, a number of Oklahoma State track and field freshman – Maddie Meiner, Stephanie Moss and Will Muirhead – have placed themselves among the world's premier junior athletes on account of impressive performances in their first year of collegiate competition.
Meiner, a multis event specialist from Highland Village, Texas, propelled herself to the No. 7 spot among the world's female U20 heptathlon athletes with her 5,271-point finish at the 2021 Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championship in Manhattan, Kansas on May 15. The mark ranks her fourth among American junior athletes and second all-time in Cowgirl history.
For Moss, her breakout performance in the women's 800 meters at 2021 Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championship ranks her No. 12 globally among U20 female competitors. The 2:05.83 pace is a career best for the freshman from Manchester, England, and places her name in program history as one of the top-10 fastest Cowgirls in the event, among the likes of Sinclaire Johnson and Kaela Edwards.
Rounding out the group of OSU up-and-comers, Muirhead's of 9:04.36 pace in the 3,000 meter steeplechase performance at the Arkansas Twilight on April 24 slots him at No. 16 among the world's U20 male athletes. The distance standout from Fairview, Texas, has been a major contributor to the Cowboys' success in distance events in the outdoor season, as well as the cross country and indoor seasons.
While competition for some OSU track and field student-athletes has come to a close for the 2020-2021 seasons, Moss and Muirhead will join a number of their qualified teammates as they head to Texas A&M to compete in the NCAA West Regional Preliminaries.
