STILLWATER – Oklahoma State dropped the opening game of the Bedlam Series Friday night at O'Brate Stadium as Oklahoma knocked off the 18th-ranked Cowboys, 16-2.
With the loss, the Cowboys fell to 24-13-1 overall and 7-9 in Big 12 Conference play, while the Sooners are now 21-19 and 5-8 in the league.
Bryce Osmond took the loss on the mound as the right-hander allowed seven runs on nine hits in his four innings of work. He struck out four and walked one in falling to 2-4 on the season.
The Cowboys did not manage much offensively on the night, collecting three hits against four OU pitchers. Caeden Trenkle reached base safely in all five of his plate appearances, drawing four walks and adding a single, while Max Hewitt was 1-for-3 with an RBI single.
OU began its scoring in the third inning as they plated five runs on six consecutive two-out hits. In the fourth, they extended their lead to 7-0 on back-to-back home runs, both of those also coming with two outs.
The Sooners used a seven-run fifth inning to take a 14-0 lead, with OSU plating its lone runs in the sixth and eighth frames.
The Bedlam Series now shifts to Norman for the final two games, with Saturday's contest set for 3 p.m. and Sunday's finale a 4 p.m. first pitch.
