April 14, 2021 | Cowboy Baseball
DURHAM, N.C. – Oklahoma State two-way standout Justin Campbell is one of 45 players from the college and high school ranks on the USA Baseball 2021 Golden Spikes Award midseason watch list.
The Golden Spikes Award is presented annually to the top amateur baseball player in the country. The winner of the 43rd Golden Spikes Award will be announced in July.
Campbell has starred on the mound and at the plate for the Cowboys this season. In seven pitching appearances, including six starts, the right-hander is 4-0 and ranks 13th nationally with a 1.15 ERA. He leads OSU with 56 strikeouts and is among the NCAA leaders in strikeouts per nine innings at 12.92.
In 39 innings of work, Campbell has only allowed five earned runs and opponents are hitting just .199 against him.
Offensively, Campbell has appeared in 17 games as a DH and pinch hitter and owns a .265 batting average with a pair of doubles and four RBIs.
Campbell is the fourth OSU player to be named to a Golden Spikes midseason watch list since that distinction was instituted in 2012. He joins former Cowboys Andrew Heaney (2012), Jason Hursh (2013) and Michael Freeman (2015) on that list.
OSU's lone Golden Spikes Award winner is Robin Ventura, who claimed the honor in 1988.
