March 08, 2021 | Cowboy Baseball
IRVING, Texas — Oklahoma State's Christian Encarnacion-Strand is the Big 12 Conference Baseball Co-Newcomer of the Week for Week 3.
Encarnacion-Strand's power surge at the plate helped the Cowboys remain unbeaten on the season and get off to a 9-0 start, OSU's best start to a season since 1995.
The Cowboy third baseman homered in three of OSU's four games last week and led the team with eight RBIs while turning in an .867 slugging percentage.
In OSU's midweek win at Missouri State, Encarnacion-Strand delivered a two-run home run which led into a weekend series against Grand Canyon that saw him go 3-for-10 at the plate with two homers and six RBIs.
In the opener against GCU, he smashed a three-run home in the fourth inning to give OSU a lead it never surrendered, and in the series finale, he recorded another three-run shot, delivering the blast in the first inning to help the Cowboys erase a 2-0 deficit.
Encarnacion-Strand ranks fifth nationally this season with five home runs, and he leads the Cowboys and ranks in the top six in the Big 12 in RBIs (12), total baes (29) and slugging percentage (.725).
This marks the second-straight week that OSU has captured Big 12 Co-Newcomer of the Week accolades as Brock Mathis collected the honor in Week 2.
