Cowboy Baseball’s Mathis Named Top Big 12 Newcomer

IRVING, Texas — Oklahoma State junior Brock Mathis is the Cowboys' first conference weekly award winner in 2021 as he has been named the Big 12 Co-Newcomer of the Week for Week 2.
Mathis helped lead OSU to four wins last week as the Pokes got off to their best start to a season since 2014. Along with a .462 batting average, the Cowboy catcher tied for the team lead with a pair of home runs and five RBIs and turned in a 1.154 slugging percentage.
In his first appearance of the season, Mathis went 3-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI and three runs scored in a win at Wichita State.
Mathis then helped OSU to a series sweep of Illinois State as he smacked two homers and drove in four runs against the Redbirds. He was also strong behind the plate, helping handle a pitching staff that allowed just four runs in the series and posted a shutout in the finale.
