Adamopoulou Headlines Oklahoma State’s Day at Woo Pig Classic
January 22, 2021 | Cowboy Cross Country & Track, Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Ariadni Adamopoulou opened the 2021 indoor season for Oklahoma State with a program-record setting performance at the Woo Pig Classic.
The Grecian pole vaulter, in her second year at OSU, placed second and bested her own school record with a height of 4.32m. The mark places her tied-fourth in country and second in the Big 12 in just the first meet of the year for the Pokes.
Taylor Roe's success from the 2020 cross country season carried right over into her second indoor season with the Cowgirls. The women's 6K runner-up at the 2020 Big 12 Cross Country Championships placed first in the mile, crushing her previous personal best (4:53.20) with a time of 4:39.87. Close behind Roe was Gabby Hentemann. The 2020 All-Big 12 Cross Country runner finished third with a run of 4:42.03, shaving nearly 11 seconds off her previous personal best. Joining Roe and Hentemann in the mile was freshman Molly Humes, who crossed the finish line in 5:20.08.
Middle distance Cowgirls had a particularly strong day at the Randal Tyson Track Center as a trio of racers - Stephanie Moss, Lilly Lavier and Gabija Galvydyte - earned top ten spots in the 800 meters. Following closely behind was Mackenzie Michael, finishing 12th in a time of 2:20.81.
Freshman throws athletes Zac Robbins and Sam Mason made their Oklahoma State debut in Fayetteville. Their day started with the weight throw in which Robbins threw 15.64m and Mason followed with a throw of 13.13m.
Joining Robbins and Mason later in the day to compete in the shot put was freshman Pat Michaels and throws veteran Torrey Hickel. The group combined for three top-10 finishes: Hickel with a throw of 16.58, to finish 6th, followed by Robbins in 7th and Michaels in 8th with throws of 14.97m and 14.91m, respectively. Sam Mason finished right outside the top 10, placing 12th with his throw of 14.33m.
Representing the Cowgirls in the field along with Adamopoulou was Bailey Golden. The 2019 All-Big 12 pentathlete opened her 2021 season in the high jump, in which she finished ninth with a jump of 1.64m. She went on to compete in the shot put and throw a modest 11.58m
Cowboys multi events specialists Max Braht and Will Edmonds finished the 60 meter hurdle prelims with times of 8.91 and 9.09, respectively. Those marks rank seventh and ninth all-time for the Cowboys.
On the day, the Cowgirls finished 6th while the Cowboys earned a team-finish of 7th.
Up next, Oklahoma State is back on the road for the Texas Tech Invitational and Multis on Jan. 29-30 in Lubbock, Texas.
