Aman Gupta Advances To U.S. Amateur Quarterfinals

BANDON, Ore. — Oklahoma State's Aman Gupta won a pair of matches on Thursday at the U.S. Amateur Championship to advance to the quarterfinal round at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort.
Gupta posted a 1-up victory over Jonathan Yaun in his first match of the day to advance to the round of 16. The duo tied the first four holes before Gupta claimed Nos. 5 and 6 for a 2-up lead. Yaun reeled off wins at Nos. 8-10 to move in front before the Cowboy pulled even with a par at the 14th.
The Concord, N.C. native made par at the 15th to move back in front and tied the final three holes to close out the match.
In his afternoon match against Sam Bennett, Gupta lost the first two holes before winning the third. He tied the match at the sixth and birdied the seventh to move in front. He built his lead to 3-up with wins at the 10th and 12th before closing out a 5-and-3 victory with wins at the 14th and 15th.
Gupta earned the No. 5 seed in match play after posting rounds of 64 and 73 during the stroke play portion of the event. He opened match play with a 3-and-2 triumph over Van Holmgren.
He will face Michael Thorbjornsen in tomorrow's quarterfinal round. Quarterfinal matches will air tomorrow on Peacock from 5-6 p.m. and Golf Channel from 6-8 p.m. (CST).
