STILLWATER — Oklahoma State's winning streak reached five Wednesday as the Cowboys completed a midweek series sweep of Saint Louis with a 7-1 triumph at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.

With the win, the Cowboys improved to 13-5, which includes a 10-1 mark on their home field. OSU will host Fresno State in a weekend series beginning Friday in what will mark the final three games at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium before the Pokes open the new O'Brate Stadium on March 20.

C.J. Varela ran his record to 3-0 on the season with another career day on the mound. The senior right-hander worked five innings and allowed just one run on four hits while racking up a career-best nine strikeouts.

Offensively, a pair of freshmen led the way as Caeden Trenkle went 3-for-5 with a triple and a pair of RBIs, while Justin Campbell was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Cade Cabbiness and Hueston Morrill also tallied two hits for the Cowboys.

OSU jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the third inning. Cabbiness got things started with a leadoff single before Morrill singled and stole second base. Up next, Trenkle brought home both runners with a single. Two batters later, Campbell picked up two RBIs with a double.

SLU (10-6) managed its lone run in the fourth, scoring on a throwing error, to cut its deficit to 4-1.

The Cowboys' final three runs came in the seventh. Trenkle led off the frame with a triple and later scored on an RBI off the bat of Campbell. OSU's sixth run came when Campbell scored on a wild pitch before a double steal by Alix Garcia and Carson McCusker, with McCusker swiping home, made the score 7-1.

Tucker Elliott, Ryan Bogusz, Brett Standlee and Ben Leeper each tossed a shutout inning out of the OSU bullpen in relief of Varela.
