FRISCO, Texas – Oklahoma State closed out play in the Frisco College Baseball Classic with an 8-5 win over 13th-ranked Texas A&M Sunday at Dr Pepper Ballpark.
A three-run ninth inning lifted the 23rd-ranked Cowboys to victory as they improved to 8-4 on the season. TAMU finished winless in Frisco to fall to 10-3.
Carson McCusker was 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two RBIs, while Kaden Polcovich and Alix Garcia also went 2-for-4 and drove in a run.
Ben Leeper picked up his first win of the season as the righty was dominant over the final two innings, setting down all six batters he faced, two via strikeout, to improve to 1-0.
OSU jumped out to an early lead as Hueston Morrill opened the game with a double before a one-out double by Polcovich brought him home and gave the Cowboys a 1-0 advantage.
TAMU took over the lead in the second, striking for four runs against OSU starter Bryce Osmond. Following a leadoff single and a strikeout, back-to-back walks loaded the bases and an RBI single by Mikey Hoehner tied the score. The Aggies plated the go-ahead run on a wild pitch before a fielder's choice and throwing error brought home two more runs to make the score 4-1.
The Cowboys erased their deficit with a three-run rally in the third. McCusker brought home the first run of the inning with an opposite-field double over the head of the TAMU right fielder, and Brock Mathis delivered a clutch two-out, two-RBI single with the bases loaded to tie things up at 4-4.
The scored remained tied until the fifth when OSU pushed across an unearned run to go up 5-4. With runners on the corners, Cade Cabbiness sent a soft ground ball up the middle that the TAMU pitcher could not field cleanly as McCusker came home to put the Pokes on top.
A two-out hit tied the game again in the seventh. This time it was TAMU pinch hitter Austin Bost who singled to center field off OSU reliever Colton Bowman to drive home a run and make the score 5-5.
In the decisive ninth, Polcovich led off with a walk, and McCusker promptly ripped a double into the left-center field gap to plate the go-ahead run. Up next, Garcia made the score 7-5 with an RBI single through the right side.
The Cowboys plated their final run when Garcia came home on a wild pitch.
OSU returns home to Allie P. Reynolds Stadium for four games in five days beginning with a Tuesday contest against Missouri State before a three-game series with BYU starting Thursday.
