STILLWATER – Oklahoma State Cross Country and Track & Field has added former-Cowgirl Anna Boyert-Thorp as an assistant distance coach for the Pokes.
Boyert-Thorp joins the OSU coaching staff after working at Southern Glazer's Wine and Spirits/E & J Gallo Winery in Dallas, Texas, as a sales representative for a year before moving into a management role in her second year where she managed a team of six sales representatives.
"I am thrilled to welcome Anna back to Stillwater. She has incredible energy, passion for OSU athletics and a positive attitude that is absolutely contagious," Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Dave Smith said. "Anna was one of those athletes that always made all those around her better and I have no doubt that we will once again take a big jump forward under her guidance. She has a deep understanding and appreciation of our team culture and training philosophy and will hit the ground running this fall. I am most excited for the men and women in our program as there simply isn't a better person to serve as their mentor, role model and coach."
A native of Medina, Ohio, Boyert-Thorp graduated from Oklahoma State in 2017 with degrees in marketing and management. During her time as a Cowgirl, she was a five-time All-Big 12 honoree, a four-time academic all-conference selection and was a Second Team All-American as the anchor leg of the ninth-place indoor distance medley relay in 2016.
Boyert-Thorp was a member of the Big 12 Champion Cowgirl cross country team in 2015 and she advanced to the NCAA West Regional quarterfinals in the 800 meters during the 2015 outdoor season. In 2016, Boyert-Thorp placed third in the mile at the Big 12 Indoor Championships and advanced to the NCAA West Regional prelims in the 1,500 meters.
"I love Oklahoma State and I'm super excited to come back and join the program on the other side of things. Being a former athlete here, I have so much to thank OSU for," Boyert-Thorp said. "Coach Smith said to me when I was in college that coaching was something that he thought I would be good at, and when he called me, it felt like it was meant to be. This is a sport that I love and I am passionate about, so I'm super excited to get the opportunity to coach at my alma mater."
