Dieringer to Compete at Yasar Dogu
July 10, 2019 | Cowboy Wrestling
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State wrestling's Alex Dieringer is positioned to contend for a 79-kilogram title at Yasar Dogu this weekend in Istanbul, Turkey. The former Cowboy will wrestle at the final United World Wrestling Ranking Series tournament beginning Friday.
Team USA sent 10 men to the event, including eight 2019 World Team members. Competitors at Yasar Dogu can earn placement points toward seeding at the 2019 World Championships. The four wrestlers with the most placement points per weight class will be seeded accordingly for September's World Championships in Kazakhstan.
Amid an exceptional year of competition, Dieringer won the Dan Kolov in March and claimed third at the Ivan Yarygin in January. After dominating his way to a U.S. Open title, he defeated Zahid Valencia in a best-of-three series at the World Team Trials, 12-1 and 12-2, in two bouts.
His title at Team Trials positioned him for a best-of-three contest at Final X: Rutgers with Kyle Dake, but the bouts were postponed. Recently, it was determined the wrestle-off between the pair will take place Aug. 17, in Austin, Texas.
The 79-kilogram contest at Yasar Dogu begins on Friday, July 12, at 3 a.m. CST with first and third-place matches beginning Saturday at 9 a.m.
