Pair Of Cowboy Pitchers Selected On Day Two Of MLB Draft

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State pitchers Logan Gragg and Peyton Battenfield became the first two Cowboys selected in the 2019 Major League Baseball Draft on Tuesday.
Gragg was the first to hear his name called when he was chosen in the eighth round with the 245th overall pick by the St. Louis Cardinals. Battenfield was taken in the ninth round (286th overall) by the Houston Astros.
A junior from Prairie Grove, Ark., Gragg has made 23 appearances, 19 of those in relief, in his first season with the Cowboys in 2019 after spending the previous two seasons in the JUCO ranks at Connors State. He owns a 3-3 record with two saves and a 5.26 ERA, and in 39 1/3 innings during his time at OSU, the right-hander has posted 35 strikeouts.
An honorable mention All-Big 12 Conference selection each of the last two seasons, Battenfield has been dominant out of the bullpen in 27 outings this season. The righty is 4-3 with five saves and a 2.91 ERA, and he leads the Cowboys with 71 strikeouts in 58 2/3 innings of work. Opponents are hitting just .186 against Battenfield on the year.
In three seasons in an OSU uniform, Battenfield has made 58 appearances, all but one of those in relief, and is 6-6 with seven saves and a 4.03 ERA, and he has 137 career strikeouts in 120 2/3 innings.
The '19 MLB Draft concludes Wednesday with rounds 11-40.
