OKLAHOMA CITY—Top-seeded Oklahoma State opened up the NCAA Oklahoma City Regional with a 2-0 victory against No. 4-seed Harvard on Friday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
Jensen Elliott and Peyton Battenfield combined for the shutout, which marked OSU's seventh of the season. The duo allowed only four hits, and no Crimson runner advanced past second base over the course of the game.
With the win, OSU improved to 37-18, while Harvard is now 27-15. The Cowboys will face Nebraska in a winner's bracket game at 7 p.m. on Saturday, while the Crimson will take on UConn in an elimination game.
Elliott started for OSU, and the junior kept the Crimson in the dugout most of the night, allowing just three hits. He finished with four strikeouts in seven innings of work as the All-Big 12 Second Team honoree moved to 10-3 on the season with the win.
Elliott's win was the 22nd of his career, which moves him into a tie for 10th on OSU's all-time wins list. He also became the Cowboys' first 10-game winner since All-American Michael Freeman in 2015.
Battenfield relieved Elliott and made quick work of Harvard. He opened up the eighth inning with a pair of strikeouts. Nine of Battenfield's first 12 pitches were strikes. The junior finished with a strike percentage of 79 percent (19-for-24).
Battenfield's effort earned him a six-out save, which was his fourth save of the season. Three of his saves have come in the postseason.
The Cowboy offense manufactured two runs, with the first run coming in the opening inning, and they scored the second run in the fourth inning.
Colin Simpson doubled in the first inning, moving Christian Funk to third base. Andrew Navigato grounded out and Funk scored on the play to give the Cowboys a 1-0 lead.
Navigato also started the action in the fourth inning with a one-out single, then advanced to third on a Trevor Boone single up the middle. He scored two at-bats later on a wild pitch, moving the Cowboy advantage to 2-0.
The Cowboys have found success playing at Oklahoma City of late. With the win Friday night, OSU moves to 5-2 this season when they play in Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
